28 miles. Beautiful. Fossilized trees from 225 million yrs ago....very tempting to take a little souvenir, but it's a huge crime and is slowly taking away from this beautiful park trying to hold onto it's amazing history.

its a crime?!? my grandparents live out in the middle of no-where between Sanders and St Johns Arizona and have the petrified forest right in their back yard... i have gone with them several times before out offroading and have taken bucket loads of the petrified wood home! their is so much out their!

@hypedupkyle --hi kyle, well, i think if it's within the actual park its a crime. i know there were lots oh shops that sold pieces, but not in the actual park where they are trying to preserve what has been there for so long. pretty cool stuff--and very tempting to take a bit!
