Linda Mills is a self-described feminist who has become a leading critic of many of the policies advocated by the mainstream battered women's movement. Mills argues that such approaches as mandatory arrest and no-drop prosecution actually deprive women of a say in how the community responds to domestic violence, thus violating one of the central tenets of the battered women's movement, which is to listen to victims. Mills advocates restorative justice approaches as an alternative to established policies. Mills is a professor and vice provost and New York University and has published several books on domestic violence.
