German-born American photographer Holger Keifel was living and working in New York City at the time of the September 11th attacks. Using a large format camera and traditional photographic techniques, Keifel worked on site at Ground Zero beginning on September 13, 2001, and photographed rescue workers as they endured the arduous task of rescue and recovery. These full color portraits depict the diversity of the heroes of this heart-breaking episode in American history.
