@longname25 try to find people from Continental Europe they should help you

@irishgodfatherchris Interesting. I have read alot about Australia's voting system. But I have never known that the Senate used a closed list system before switching to an open list. Thank you for your view point. I am glad to hear other people's view point on PR. Very few people in my hometown talk about it.

@longname25 I'm in favour of that providing you still have STV-PV, like we have in Australia because our Senators are elected from an open party list where we can rank any senator in any order we want because up until 1975 they were from a closed list and only elected via STV.

@irishgodfatherchris open list system.
-
@longname25 open list or closed list, they are different
-
@irishgodfatherchris I do admit, those systems are far better then the First Past The Post system. i have always envied the Australian's voting system.
I am glad to hear from your view point. Also, what do you think of Party List systems of Proportional representation? The systems that are used in Europe.
-
@longname25 I don't have one purely because I'm of the opinion that its the best system for electing single member constituencies, but I reckon Instant Gregory PR like we use here (where all the States are given 12 Senators and the Territories have 2 inline with the nexus provision in the Constitution) and have 12 Senators from the Provinces and Territories and have half of them up for election at each election. Although as an Australian I do have a bias to these systems

@irishgodfatherchris Personally I prefer the STV proportional representation vote in a multi member electorial division over the preferential voting system. Although it is a little better then First Past The Post. In preferential voting, a candidate needs a real majoity to win. Preferential voting system for a single member electorial division tends to wastes alot of votes.
what is your option on preferential voting?
-
@longname25 what about full preferential voting for the Commons as well
-
@irishgodfatherchris You are right, it is as effective as a catflap in an elephant house. It has to be reformed. think the STV-PV is an excellent way of voting. As a matter of fact, there has been a few experimental senate elections. However, the sentate still has a long way to go to becoming democratic.
Thank you for Commenting on that. I do appriate it.
I wish more BC voters had seen this video.
