Essential Dad and Parent Skills 2-7: How to Burp a baby

Baby burping is an intensely scientific and exacting process requiring thousands of hours of study and careful practice. Well, not really. But at least a few minutes of study and some regular practice.

The only downside to teaching a bunch of new dads how to burb their babies is that you can almost sense the coming wave of baby burping contests at the next barbecue.

But on the serious side of things, for the first few months babies can't get the gas out of their stomachs by themselves and they need you to help, it is an easy process if you know how to do it.

There are some tricks and techniques covered in this and later videos which practically make burping your baby an art form.

Not really. But you get the idea.

Love it? Hate it? Like it? Know how to do it better? Just looking for advice? Care to comment? Want to talk about dad stuff? contact me: dsw@cluelessfather.com

Or if you want the female side of things talk to my wife. She's the smart one in the family. :D rosew@cluelessfather.com

  • shes a beautiful baby girl!

  • @MegaDandash Thank you! As I tell everyone: she gets it all from her mother! Have a great day! Best, Darius

  • what happends if the baby barfs cuz that happend and i was doing everything right

  • @Darkblade1415 Hi Dark, thanks for writing. If your baby is less than 6 months old, you can pretty much expect barf to happen at least half the time when burping the baby which is why you use the burp rag to catch it. Usually it isn't a lot but still liquid does rise up.

A few questions so I can help you more: a. how old is the baby? b. is he or she drinking formula or are they drinking breastmilk? c. Is there anything else they are eating as well? (cereal, cookies, etc.)

    Best, Darius

  • @cluelessfather i think she enjoy her feeding times and burping more from daddy than mom and she has you wrapped around her little finger

  • @davidkat100 She definitely owns me. No question about it. However her mother and I shared the burden of raising our girls equally and she proves it. That being said, it seems to be historically true that daughters have a different bond with their fathers than they do with their mothers. Only time will tell in our specific instance but that seems to be the vast overwhelming majority. I know I certainly have a different bond with my mom than I do with my dad. But who knows?

  • thanx, this tips very help me man... thanx a lot

  • @princesa0388 Hmmm... I thought about it and asked my wife and she was nowhere near as nervous about having our first child as I was, I checked with a couple of other couples who are friends and they said the same. Maybe women are just genetically more oriented to bearing children and the responsibilities that come with it and it takes men a little more getting used to? Who knows. But I wish you the best of luck and am sure you will have a beautiful child. Best, Dare
