Mission
The Light of Truth Center, Inc. (LTC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing safe and supportive housing in an environment conducive to recovery, transition and restoration. This environment facilitates education, empowerment, enlightenment, education and healing for women recovering from addictions.
Vision:
The Light of Truth Center is a place where women live as a family unit, and support themselves and each other's recovery process.
Core Beliefs:
The Light of Truth Center:
1.Believes recovery is possible and that every woman has the right to recover, regardless of her ability to pay.
2.Believes all souls can heal.
3.Stands on integrity and does everything in a spirit of genuine love and compassion.
4.Holds the vision of what's possible for each recovering woman until she can see it for herself.
5.Serves the needs of women in a holistic manner, providing a safe space for the recovery of physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.
6.Honors the dignity and esteem of all women.
7.Gives women the choice and opportunity for a new way of life.
8.Loves the woman until she can learn to love herself.
9.Understands that recovering women are people, not statistics, and behaves accordingly in all endeavors.
10.Knows that all women come to the Center already possessing positive life skills that will reveal themselves through the process of recovery, transition and restoration.
11.Believes the current "system" of helping women in recovery is deeply flawed and is committed to forwarding the progressive thinking and action that will light the way to a new day for women struggling with addiction everywhere.
How a Green Roof will Help LTC:
At LTC, our motto/mantra is "Building Lives From the Inside Out". We are in the midst of renovating a property in Baltimore City ( the Jefferson-Jones House ) that will provide permanent supportive housing for eight women. This property will play a key role in LTC's innovative approach to treatment, which can be described as a continuum of service that meets the Recovery, Transition, and Restoration needs of the women we serve. And as the first "less than $100,000.00 budget" recipient of the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations (MANO) Certification of Excellence, we want to be an example that non-profits are not only responsible to the people we serve, but that we can commit to doing so in a manner that exhibits our responsibility to our world to reduce/recycle/reuse as much as practical.
First from a service perspective, the Jefferson-Jones House will manifest the "Transition" piece of LTC's mission. Second from a financial perspective, the Jefferson-Jones House will provide a viable source of self-funding which will support LTC's core belief that "every woman has the right to recover, regardless of her ability to pay." Third from a model for excellence perspective, the Jefferson-Jones House will be a showcase to the entire non-profit community of LTC's many facets of innovation.
With the help of a LEED certified architect and an eco conscious contractor, LTC has made a sincere effort to utilize "green" planning, processes, and products from throughout the renovation. Although we've reclaimed floors, fully insulated walls, purchased energy saver appliances, resurfaced the roof, etc., we fully recognize that going forward we will need to be very mindful of water and energy use once the property is occupied to contain operating costs. We basically rely on donations, grants, volunteers and every day "out of the box" thinking to help us achieve our mission and vision. The cost of a solar system is cost prohibitive for our small organization. So the Green Roof Giveaway will be the "icing on the cake" because it will allow us to gain the energy savings immediately, which will allow our resources to be used to enhance the traction of our other initiatives! Also, we're located on a main thoroughfare near The Johns Hopkins Hospital, so the extra visibility from a PR perspective will be a plus!
