Guest post for my friend Tamar Weinberg of techipedia.com

Transcript:
I ran across an excellent post by Jesse Stay on Tamar blog about how to create the perfect Facebook fan page. And since I have been meaning to create a fan page for my RentVine site, I thought it would be fun to create a video of me following Jesse's instructions.

So here is how I created my - Perfect Facebook Fan Page.

The first thing Jesse says to do is to take advantage of that large profile picture that Facebook allows you to have.

Using my old FireWorks application for some reason can't stop using I'll first drop in my photo of grapes that I use on my blog, then in drop my Logo and let's rotate it to get the most benefit of the vertical space and why not throw my mug on there as well since I like to brand my face along with my site.

Next. Uploaded the new profile image we just made and viola! There's my new profile picture.

Jesse then tells us to install the static FBML app and add a custom tab.

I did a search for static FBML and landed here.

Next click Add to my Page

I'll select my new RentVine fan page, then press close.

Now what you want to do is create your tab. To create the tab, just go to your Page and click the link, Edit Page.

Now when you scroll down you will see a subsection called FBML. Click on the Application Settings link.

Click add next to the Tab then click Okay.

Youve now just added the tab let's go ahead and customize it.

The tab appears in the list of tabs at the top, and you can drag it around.

Go back to the tab and youll notice the tab is completely blank.
Lets add some content to it.

Next change the title and add some simple FBML tags - I added a YouTube video and then click save changes.
Now my new tab has my scammer video on it.

Jesse suggests you might want to set your fan page to default to your new tab.

To do this, click Edit Page
Under Wall Setting click edit,
Change the default to the new tab

Next let's do a little SEO.

Since your tab is now visible to search engine lets add some content to this tab rich in keywords you want to rank for.

That's it - enjoy your new fan page.
I'm Dave Dugdale. Rentvine.com

  • The instruction you deliver works well, BUT .... Now that Facebook are abandoning the FBML in favour of iframes, will you update the YouTube video for us, Dave? (14th March 2011 deadline)

Incidentally I'm very impressed indeed with the professional quality of your presentation ... it really is one of the best holistic presentations I have seen.

    Well done you!

Thanks for taking time to share with us.
