Jackie Shane - Any Other Way (Live version)

Any Other Way was Jackie's biggest hit single, hitting the charts TWICE.

By popular demand, the single was re-released and immediately made it onto the CHUM Top 50 charts, attracting the interest of Caravan Records' Frank Swayne. I pitched the idea of recording a live album the next time Jackie was in town and guess what — he went for it!

I have to give a shout out to Mrs Kenner, the former owner of A&A Records. That poor lady had to endure this song being played over and over and over and over... :)

The quintesential soul song. First done by William Bell and then later Chuck Jackson. However, if you were a Canadian in the sixties, it was Jackie Shane that pulled at your heart strings with this emotional plea to a long lost loved one. I still love this offering from Jackie and guess what, we never cared one little bit about his sexual orientation. He was an incredible performer, period.

It's funny.

I never thought of Jackie as 'he' or 'she' — just Jackie.

One thing I'll always remember is Jackie's penchant for a certain perfume — Estée Lauder Youth Dew.

Strong stuff but I loved it. I bought some for my mom but she would only wear it when i came home for holidays — that's how mothers are, I guess.

So many memories of the incredible Jackie Shane . . .

I'm came to this song first via Chuck Jackson and then the Wm Bell original but Jackie Shanes' version blows them both away. But this live version is just something else!! I don't know whether to laugh, cry or just scream!!

great songs, if it wasn't 4 him going obviously both ways i think he wuda b'n famous not only in canada but the u.s. etc.but 4 them back then, 4get about it.

I don't know all the details of this recording, but what I've learned over the years, is that this live version is the true Canadian Content version.
