3 Died in Firey Crash - Iswara on Army Truck - 13 Feb 08

Three family members died on Wednesday after the car they were in crashed into a parked army truck and burst into flames on the North-South Expressway near Felda Trolak Jaya. Slim River OCPD Supt Mohd Ali Nayan said the three victims had been identified as Loi Heng Kee, 54, his son Teck Fah, 28, and Teck Fah's wife Ling Chui Ping, 27. He said the family from Kuala Lumpur was travelling to Beruas when the incident occurred at the 363rd kilometre of the North-South Expressway on Wednesday. During the 3pm incident, the three victims were burnt beyond recognition when their car burst into flames after crashing into an army truck at the expressway. The soldiers had stopped on the emergency lane of the expressway to put a canvas cover at the back of the truck when the incident occurred. Supt Mohd Ali said the police had also identified Heng Kee as the driver of the car. The survivor of the crash, Teck Fah's 26-year-old sister, Siew Foong, who had been admitted to the Slim River Hospital prior to the accident had regained consciousness, he added. "Investigation into the crash is still ongoing," said Supt Mohd Ali on Thursday. He added that one of the soldiers from the army truck had both his legs fractured while another soldier was given outpatient treatment.

I read most accidents happened in expressways in Malaysia involving vehicles park in emergency lane. One thing I don't understand is that why people always bang vehicles in emergency lanes since it's wide enough for a vehicle. The driver should be asleep or overtake at the emergency lane. Stupid driver.

The problem is, you've got:

1. It's an emergency. My car's broken down.

2. It's an emergency. My wife's in labour and we're on the way to the hospital.

3. It's an emergency. I'm late for my son's little league game because I lost track of time screwing my secretary at the office.

Without some actual definitions of emergency, you'll have idiots abusing it. And with definitions, something perfectly valid will be left out.

You can't legislate common sense.

he obviously went really was in the emergency lane. emergency lanes are for emergencies only. the drives was obviously wasn't aware of that and that cost the lives of his/hers family members. thats really sad man..really sad. seriously my fellow malaysians, DO NOT USE THE EMERGENCY LANE UNLESS YOU HAVE TO USE IT FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY.
