That wasn't smearing blue shit all over the screen. That is how you scan and read the information and instructions "code" for the vic 20. You would use this when you've just finished creating a program and want to check it for errors. That might have been in machine code instead of basic.

@gzussturbo that was BASIC program language. im 14 and i was born WAY after the vic 20 and i program a lot on my commodore 64

The Vic-20 was in fact, much better than the Apple II family for many things. The only thing they had going for them was higher res than the Vic-20.

As I thought about it, it's actually a pretty good commercial. I just didn't like how they made games the reason for stupidity.
