if they make a game with gameplay EXACTLY like the genesis titles, and have the special stages play like the 3d daytime sections of unleashed, that would kick ass.

I've done a little digging and from what I've seen, it looks like this game is an entirely different game from the new Sega game. This site is dedicated to the FAN-MADE game "NeedleMouse: The Emerald Hills", not to be confused with "Project NeedleMouse."
It also mentions on the bottom of their site "This site is not associated with or endorsed by SEGA Corporation or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates. All work exibited here is copyright © Jono M. Forbes and Matt Schoen 2009."
