This guy singularly changed the way jazz drums are approached----and arguably had the first jazz/rock fusion band----Tony Williams ''Lifetime'' It still matters today.
-
Yeah !
I remember this concert, I was 18 and in the audience- Tony had this pink jacket and a camera and filmed the audience when walkin in , ha ha. Then he would start with a minute of double stroke roll right into "Sister Cheryl" ...... Blew my mind away
Yeah !
-
one of the most creative and skilled jazz drummer in history
-
Tony's work with Miles Davis when he was all of 17-18 years of age remains both legendary and historic.
Tony Williams was the finest all around Jazz drummer to ever command the throne.
-
I love all the top guys, but Tony was, and is, THE MAN!
-
@ClarkKasheta probably
-
He can cut titanium with his chops.
-
Wallace Roney-trumpet; Billy Pierce- soprano saxophone; Mulgrew Miller-piano; Robert Hurst-bass; Tony Williams-drums.

Man thats a hot clip!
Magnificent. Unfortunately I'm old enough to know that Tony Williams was one of the best drummers to ever pick up a pair of sticks. I know you guys are up on this stuff but just in case I have a recommendation. Tony Williams " The Lifetime Collection " is one of the best drumming albums I've ever heard. The legendary Alan Holdsworth plays guitar and they are pure magic together. Tony goes off on virtually every song yet the songs retain their identity. A must have for any Tony William's fan.

You're right about that. Very good drumming and overall performance of the whole band. I'm a bit used to listen the files on which comments are made which sometimes suprises me how good some of them are. Just too bad in a lot of cases the artists aren't among us now anymore.....
