All the sounds except the strings and Supper Bass are sounds I programed in the mid to late 80's. Only reverb from a Lexicon MX200 was added to the recording. More Demos to follow

  • Thanks everyone...yes Clavinet sound.

  • I prefer my PROPHET-5 because it's warm and has knobs on it.

  • The Prophet is also very nice and will do a whole other style of sounds. Knobs are grreat to have but you can also work with out them :). I also have synths with knobs and others without, for me it has not affected how I play :).

WHat is really coolis to layer an analog sound with a digital...it's all good :)

  • this is really interesting to hear the sounds you made in the 80's. some of the sounds are so accurate sounding... excellent job. i have a dx7 myself an i use it with MOTU's Unisyn. Haven't really replicated any instruments with it though.

  • Thanks

  • that's a killer clav

  • Thanks, the Dx can do all kinds of fun Clavs :)

  • Analogue synths have no sonic power or versatility. All these analogue devotees cry wheres the knobs, but what do they do? Make the same boring sqelchy acid type sounds over ahd over and over again. The last time I heard anything great come from an analogue synth was Vince clarke in the early 80s.

The bass on a DX7 MK2 will blow a mini moog away. The pads will make a JP8 look like a fools snth at its price. And the vox sounds have an emulator/synclavier quality. The DX7 MK 2 is where its at.

  • The DX7 is the greatest PURE synth of ALLTIME. And I will tell you why. An analogue couldnt produce a realistic sound like the DX7. But the DX7 could produce fat analogue type sounds. Plus what you hear with the original DX7 is pure unlayered sounds without EFFECTS.

Oh yes what you think are great sounds today are sampled sounds not synthesised at all. That is what makes the DX7 so special thoses iconic sounds came straight out of the FM sound engine and nowhere else.

  • i have a knob

  • this does the sonic hedgehog spring yard bells to a t, only just got one recently incorporaated with modern soounds its like a barber cuthroat, cut through like a mo fo , though hard to program the acoustic sounds are second to none hook it up to an outbord fx unit then you are cooking on high octane

  • @spontaneous09

    yamaha dx7 if i'm not mistaken :)

  • @wilziac I think it's the same...

  • Show us your face, we know its you giorgio moroder!!!!!

  • kavinsky used this synth for his album

  • The sound at the very begining sounds like the sound in Phil Collins: One More Night, and he did infact use a DX7. What Catridge, and sound did you use?

  • @Brian880 I have a Sequencial Circuit Prophet six-track (the old analog one) and it works perfectly, but is played differently than the new digital ones. It is hard to find someone who still plays old analog synths the way they should be played. I would never trade the beauty of configuring sounds on my prophet for a digital synth.
