The president didn't even send me a telegram."[13] On the other hand, Hitler sent Owens a commemorative inscribed cabinet photograph of himself.[14] Jesse Owens was never invited to the White House nor bestowed honors by presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) or his successor Harry S. Truman during their terms. In 1955, President Dwight D. Eisenhower honored Owens by naming him an "Ambassador of Sports."

What people should know is that last jump Owens did to win the gold was his third try, he had two false starts and would have been disqualified; however a German jumper gave him a valuable piece of advice and he made that brilliant jump to win gold and beat the field including the German who gave him that advice...they remained lifelong mates. It just goes to show that hatred is manmade; here were two men who weren't suppose to bond or aid each other, but did and gained a remarkable friendship.
