This is what it looks like to land on a Knox Class frigate.

  • You are welcome. I'm glad you found it useful. There are some other clips on my profile including a helo takeoff.

  • Did your motion picture camera have sound or has the sound been added later on?

  • It did not, but I recorded ship sounds with a cassette recorder and added sound later.

  • Hi Chuck! Great Video! On Talbot we had half the landing space that Ainsworth had (one single line-up line), realy made for some interesting moments! See you in P-Cola in 2011!

  • Only a true connoisseur could tell the difference between an insanely tiny flight deck and an insanely tinier deck. Having landed on both, I can avow that the extra 3 feet beam of the Knox Class doesn't seem like that much more on a dark stormy night.

  • Nice video. That's our old bird -151332. She was Greenchecker 232, Det 6 on the Moosbrugger back in the early 80's. Brought back memories of playing AT and LSE.

  • She was Greenchecker 29 in 1977 and changed to 232 in 1978 before we went to the North Atlantic.

  • THANK YOU for posting the only video ive seen of this ship. As an Ainsworth from Vancouver Island, B.C. myself, V ADM Waldron PUG Ainsworth was likely related through english family. where would the ships insignias and plaque etc. have gone to when vessel was sold. wondering

  • How cool, I was a 2-P on the Ainsworth in '89. Dave Gruber was OIC, Tom Klitz M.O., Mike Connor Ops, Rick Skinner Chief.

Great quality vid from ' 73.

  • And "slicks" for the 4 mainmount tires as well! We've all experienced the Knox class slip and slide.

Still get the willies thinking about being held by one chain attached to the starboard mainmount when the OOD turned before we were secured (10,000 pound chain held us with 20 degrees angle of bank showing). A tense time (pun intended)! ;-)

Served two tours in 34 (78-80) and (83-84).

I've enjoyed watching these videos. Really takes me back. Thanks for posting them.
