its a different game now then back then, generally the players are much better, pele arguably wouldn't survive in the modern day soccer leagues, but for his time he was evolutionary. It's a whole new style of play now and its very focused on teamwork and movement off the ball, the best players shine with the aid of their team, unlike most players in the past that were mainly independent stars that made plays happen all by themselves. but thats just my opinion

Interesting how most of these long shots took place in the 1974 and 1978 world cups. Either the goalkeeper has gotten much better since then, or the players have gotten much less powerful. There just hasn't been that many consistent long range goals of late like we saw in Germany and Holland.
