Chant group Psallentes consists of six professional singers, presenting a vivid performance of fifteenth century chant. Here you can listen to (the first half of) the responsory 'O beata Trinitas' while watching the same in the original manuscript (B-Gu 15/1: an antiphoner from the Abbey of Bavo in Ghent, 1481). This is from the cd 'Etienne de Liège - In festo sanctissimae Trinitatis' RIC 249. Buy the cd at www.ricercar.be - other discs available as well. Check it out!

  • I am not a Roman Catholic but I find these hymns to be of exquisite beauty. As for the "pop songs" referred in previous comments, I'd have to say that the abandonement of the traditional chanting was not the best thing that ever happened to the RC church. If people cannot estimate the solemnity and beauty of this chanting, you try to raise their cultural and spiritual ethos, not lower church music to the standards of the - some times an in some aspects uncultivated - masses.

  • LOVE it! 5 Stars!

Visit their website, they seem more about medival chant than just RC chant(may be wrong here), of course much(most) of it was RC due the churches influence during the period.

  • @Callixtinus I'm not Catholic but also moved by the beautiful flow of the chants.I found a chapel in my area that celebrates the Fully Traditional Roman Catholic Latin Mass Pre-Vatican II.They also sing the Gregorian Plain Chant.I'm planning to visit soon!

  • Beautiful!

  • That was good.

  • @mjconollyIII

    Agreed!

  • @Mr anti religiones as i said to Callixtinus, it is not the church but people within the Church at the local level who are stripping down God's church. it is becoming more and more protestant by the day.

  • @Callixtinus

Agreed! I am a Roman Catholic. It is not the church that has abandoned these heavenly beauties but individuals in the church at the local level who are detroying the church.

  • @MrAntiReligiones Sadly these will disappear over time as the church will try to suck up to new generation of people with "popular songs". Still they are awesome when taken out of context.

  • @deadmeh I have to tell you I am atheist, i dont believe in God and any Religion, but I really love these chants, also the byzantine, Old Roman, Russian Znammeny Chant, Mozarabic Chant, and all these beautiful music.
