This selection begins with a bawa, an unmetered, solo vocal introduction. At the conclusion of the bawa, the full gamelan enters with the merong section of Bondhet, settling into a calm statement and repetition of the main 64-beat theme. A brief increase in tempo signals the transition to the minggah section. As the music slows to the next tempo level (irama), the elaborating instruments double the density of their parts, contributing to the rich, delicate texture that is characteristic of Central Javanese gamelan music. Another change of tempo signals the transition to Pucung Wuyung, which features chorous singing.
