  • How am I not surprised that Republicans are planning to run agains--instead of for-- something that's good for most Americans?

    GOP: the party of no.

GOP: the party of lies and obstruction.

GOP: the party of problems and no solutions.

  • McConnell is mincing words. yeah, people are opposed to this bill. That doesn't mean they're against govt taking over their healthcare. They're overwhelmingly in favor of that.

Do you favor or oppose, "Having a national health plan in which all Americans would get their insurance through an expanded, universal form of Medicare-for all?"

    Favor 58%, Oppose 38%, NA/DK 3% Jul 2009

Other similar polls show 49%, 59%, etc etc.

  • He is another paracite that lives off the tax payer.

  • The odd liberal bourgeois ideas of the past century have not created the results they expected or perhaps they have. The urban blight and rural squalor haven't really gone away, they may have transformed, but they haven't gone away.Despite a century of evidence the idea of redistribution of wealth has not worked. Why would people who have never taken care of themselves, one day decide to do so if every need is met by someone else?If the state feeds, clothes, and shelters you, it owns you.

  • "To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes;" "To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof."

Stop lying, you see what both of those clauses say.

  • so now that you have acknowledged that "taking money from rich people" is constitutional,

then all that remains is determining is it constitutional for the government to "give it to poor people" is constitutional

the both the commerce and the necessary and proper clauses that you sited in article 1 section 8 gives congress broad powers to establish services and regulations for the poor from food stamps, to unemployment to tax credits, all are constitutional.

  • When I've said taxes are constitutional.

"The 16th amendment allows taxing," 6 days ago

"Yes the government can tax, I've never disputed that." 12 hours ago

Now that I've shown you that a) taxes are constitutional and b) I've said taxes are constitutional. Let's move on to answering your questions about the purpose of taxation within the context of the constitution.

  • The preamble of Article 1 section 8 and the 16th amendment both say taxes can be collected.I've said that several times. Maybe if I say it a few more times in different ways we can come to an agreement.Taxing anyone is not unconstitutional but the use of those funds can and have been obviously unconstitutional.Taxing is an enumerated power and the ways those taxes are distributed are dictated specifically in the constitution. The US government may tax and may spend according to the constitution.

  • let's take this one step at a time. you defined redistribution of wealth as "taking money from rich people and giving it to poor people"

this obviously has two parts. i keeping with the "one step at a time" approach, given the 16th amendment...

how is it "unconstitutional" to tax (i.e. taking money from) rich people?

  • The internet is a trip.

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are

willing to work and give to those who would not.

    Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government

from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

    Thomas Jefferson

You need to educate yourself by looking at the sources and not the analysis of the sources.

  • ^^^^

Article I Section 8 of the US Constitution, I figured you needed a primer since you don't know what is in it. As you can see redistribution of wealth, confiscatory taxation, taking money from rich people to give it to poor people, bailouts, health care, etc etc. ARE NOT enumerated powers.

  • of the state in which the same shall be, for the erection of forts, magazines, arsenals, dockyards, and other needful buildings;--And

To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof.
