This whale watch was with Captn John Boats, and left from Plymouth MA. It heads out to Stellwagon Bay off of the cape, where the water goes from being a shelf around 180 ft deep, to dropping down to depths as deep as 300+ ft. The water temperatures and conditions cause the main food sources for many marine animals to rise in the areas near this bank, and it is this location that whale watch boats flock to. Also commonly seen in Stellwagon Bay are seals, turtles, sharks and dolphins. For those who are curious, yes there is the rare siting of Great Whites every now and then, usually from fishing charters that catch them by mistake, and the extremely rare sighting of one getting a seal within the past four or five years or so. They have always been present in the deeper waters off of the coast, but the sudden influx of seals brought our attention to their domain, and so we hear more about it. Don't worry, nothing will eat you if you go on a whale watch. The whales are beautiful, gentle, and majestic. The younger ones are often playful, and even adult whales are known to show off for people on boat decks :)
Of course, I always miss the basking .I have more videos possibly more succesful than this one, I was having an aweful time with this camera, as it is not meant for filming, and to top it off, several people began discussions nearby that distracted me, and I was with my younger brother , so some sibling inspired aggravation was guaranteed.
Oh, the whales are humpbacks and the occasional minkey (sp?).
@lorrifuentes They are fabulous, I just went again this past week and it was amazing, we saw one breach!
Haha, yeah, well my brother and I had watched Planet Earth the night before, and they'd spoken about the various ways whales feed, and he was askign if it was a large group of whales blowing bubbles to corral the fish and whatnot, and considering how there's 1 -2 whales here I was like ......no!
Ah well, we get along much better now even with just a year of aging or so :)

It's Stellwagen Bank and Minke. Aren't these the best watches ever? I was with my younger brother also...funny common attritions. I didn't experience the sibling aggravation, but I still get it.
