Actually it's about breaking up AND heroin (perhaps the poor guy is turning to drugs because of the break up). The line, "I'll be in my basement room, with a needle and a spoon" is the giveaway line. The cleverest bit is the title's double meaning, which can refer to the rotting bouquets due to the end of the relationship, and to the main ingredient of heroin, ground up poppies (literally, 'dead flowers').
