Live Jazz at Jazz Café Murra in Kyoto. Izumi Thorn (bass), Tomoaki Baba (tenor sax), Sachiyo Fujii (piano), and Takashi Oyama (drums), December 20, 2010.

At the time, Izumi and Tomoaki were high school seniors (18 years old). Izumi is from Kyoto and Tomoaki is from Sapporo. Takashi is a student at Kansai University. Sachiyo is a professional musician who is well known in the Kansai area.

  • @geofg Thanks. It's not a "band" per se. Like most jazz musicians, Izumi "jams" with a lot of different people. Tomoaki, on sax, is the same age, and came down from Hokkaido for this series of gigs Izumi organized. In each gig, the membership was a bit different. I love hearing Izumi talk about jazz and music theory, even though most of it goes right over my head. Dude lives for jazz. As a fellow 親ばか, I'm sure you can guess that I'm quite proud of him.

  • @mattthorn I'd be proud, too. And being a jazz musician is way more 渋い than if he were to be in, say, a J-pop band or something.
