"We are gathered here today to mourn on the tragic death of a beloved mother, sister, and daughter." The priest said his voice booming throughout the crowd on this rainy, dreadful day.
The quiet wind whisked its way over Maddie's face, gently aking her cheeks cold due to the tears she cried. She held a black umbrella high above her head as the rain beat down on the roof of it. Clutched in her hand was a shiny gold necklace, dripping wet with rain.
Tears slowly treaded down her rosy red cheeks as she looked down at her converse. The black casket laid before her, as if it were mocking her. She gazed up at the casket staring at the top.
The top of the casket was laid with flowers. Roses, to be exact. Black and red roses. Her mothers's favorite flower. She sighed as the remembered what her mother said to her, before her heart stopped pumping.
"You are destined for greatness. Dont give up."
Her mother had said, as Maddie broke into tears clinging onto her mom's hand. She shook her head as her mother's eyes closed shut, took her last breathe and gazed at her daughter before her, just once more.
The final words echoed in her mind, completely droning out the voice of the priest. Maddie was in her own little world, drifting off into a sea of thought. Her mother's face flashed into her mind..
She was smiling. Happy as ever, without a care in the world.
Maddie's lip quivered as she broke into tears. She soon felt a hand on her shoulder. She looked over and saw a strange man, she has never seen before. He looked familiar, but She didn't seem to know who.
"I'm sorry." He whispered quietly, tears glistening in his brown orbs. Maddie's eyes schrunched up into confusion, as he looked at her with the most sincere eyes.
"Who are yo-"
Maddie was quickly cut off by the priest's voice calling her name. "Maddie, would you please come up here and say a few words.."
She compliently nodded her head and walked up to the podium infront of the casket. She stared out into the crowd, tracing her eyes over the sad eyes and damp eyes.
"Ummm.. I don't really know what to say.." She stammered.
"But I do know that my mom was my best friend. She was apart of my heart and I lost a big piece of my heart inside." She said staring down, at her shoes.
"My mom has always been there for me. Through thick and thin. She was always bee there. Unfortunately, my dad hasn't. And that's what I adore the most about my mom."
Maddie's eyes seemed to look over at the mysterious man. His head hung low, but you could tell he was listening very carefully. "Even though my dad has been gone all my life, She still hung on tight. She still had hope and she was so strong."
She sighed as she rubbed her wet, tired eyes. "I'll always miss my mom. She will always be apart of me. Forever."
Maddie said breaking down into tears, cupping her head in her hands.
'Why?' she asked herself. 'Why me?'
