@kenny4me93 - I don't touch them because of the prevelence of rabies in South Florida. Although I do not believe the ones I feed (down to 4 now) are rabid, it is just not smart to take the risk. They also can carry a parasite that is potentially lethal to humans and domestic animals. I also now limit them to a few treats each evening so they don't become dependent on me.

She is so good for you. I do know how expensive it can get. I am way over my head these days feeding the squirrels, birds and foxes. But I love them.

I have two raccoon families that have adopted me and my treats. The babies were so sweet (and bad). Mine LOVE marshmallows. They also love peanuts (in the shell, no salt), grapes, cat food and vanilla wafers. Gets expensive. It is not a smart thing to do - they are wild animals. But they are extremely smart and I have taught them to back up and wait while I open the door and set the food out. I would not risk touching them. Thanks for sharing.

@dewdrop1994 ~THANKS for the comments~
I buy 'S Bar' chicken hot dogs in bulk when on sale for 88 cents a pack. Daisy loves them. I also put no-salt shelled peanuts out ever day for the squirrells & raccoons. Daisy also LOVES watermelon ! I'm gonna try the cat food this winter. In winter they also get unused leftovers. I feed Daisy out of my hand. Shes really timid & gentle. Also Ohio has few rabies cases as then spend $200,000 + on medicated drop pellets. Check out my other Raccoon feeding vid

@dewdrop1994 why not touch them? And can I leave food in my hand for them to eat from?

@kenny4me93
They used to be notorious for having rabies spread thru bites.
We have a vaccine bait program ~ 762,000 vaccine bait pellets have been dropped from plane & truck
The bait is a brown square block with a strong odor of fish meal, which attracts raccoons. A packet in the block contains a red liquid with the vaccine. A raccoon is vaccinated by eating it.
I fed this 1 as a baby for 2 years now & we have trust. I have pet her, but you should be careful.
Trust takes time.

@colornedge ~ THANKS for the nice comment ~
I may take the dried dog or cat food route this winter. I can get a great deal buying it in bulk.
Take care, Alex
