The Moken of Andaman, without any technology, but with an unrivalled knowledge of the sea, were the sole population to have predicted the arrival of Tidal waves. How they can know?
This interview with a old Moken seems to suggest that the singular capacity of Sea Gypsies may be partially attributed to the existance of old stories (boran) passed through generations and related to an ancient, very violent Tsunami.
In addition, the ability of Mokens in forecasting the arrival of killing waves may be also reinforced by relatively recent and more direct experiences: smaller Tsunami, but violent enough to generate fear in this population. These recent Tsunami should have been provoked by localized telluric events, and therefore limited to small areas of Andaman sea.
