Craig, I downloaded the program avast new version but it only allowed me to use it for 2 months and then said I had to purchase it.. then I just got rid of it, I really don't have a problem with virus anyways so its better for me not to have it. I hate it when the the tech person where you are buying a new computer say's you have to have a virus program, its pointless it slows the computer down and eats up space. so No virus program for me. so thats my thoughts on those 2 things!!

why do you idiots trust av-comparatives or virus bulletin?the august 2010 results(virusbtn.com) say that avg has a better detection than avast avira and kaspersky.what kind of idiot will believe that?av-comparatives also have fake results.those sites are sponsored.if you see the videos,in which avs are tested you'll see that avast 5 is the best!you should only trust the users, not the IT''professionals''.

@Cypriaan01 Register it. Registration is free and all you need is your name and e-mail address. That will unlock your full edition.

@PCMichiana, hello, i downloaded avast 5 today, and everything seemed ok but the Scan Now section is blank..i've tried repairing, reinstalling ect but it remains blank. Do you know if something has to be done to get it working or to show up? (sorry i know this' a bit random, but the avast forums aren't much help)

Have you scanned your computer for known malware? That kind of issue is often caused by an infection on the computer before installing Avast. I would suggest uninstalling Avast and running a full scan and clean using Malwarebytes Antimalware Free (available at my website)

Does this have a firewall, so i can finally disable " Windows Firewall "?

No it doesn't, also, if you have a router on your home network the windows firewall is sufficient for protection - however - you can always disable the annoying bubbles from the firewall through your control panel > security center > under resources on the left select "Change the way security center alerts me"
