His work spans several media.
He is known for his surreal animations and features, which have greatly influenced other artists such as Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam, the Brothers Quay, and many others

  • Brothers Quay got a lot of their influences from Jan

  • i always thought that this film somehow transcended all of his other films, the animation segments are different - utilizing rapid fades/dissolves/superimpositio­ns that are unearthly beautiful to me. However the flashing frames in the sepia scenes make me dizzy, so it's a flawed masterpiece to me.

  • probably it´s just svankmajer´s -> interpretation of Massot´s movie 'wonderwall' ...
