Only Gene and Billy Joe Royal, with the first version of "Hush", embraced the lost art of "wall of noise" in 1969. Such thrilling theatrical songs, like I'd only get from "flashback" time, as a kid. It was the folk rock era that Simon and Garfunkel were ushering in, boring the hell out of me.
