Have You Heard From Johannesburg (HYHJ) is a new a six-part documentary series that tells the story of the global movement that took on South Africa's apartheid regime and reveals how everyday people helped bring one of the most brutally repressive political systems in the world to its knees. Pulling together the many threads of this global story for the first time in any medium, Have You Heard From Johannesburg is an inspiring example for citizens and activist movements across the world. At the Institute, Academy-Award winning director Connie Field and her team built a prototype for an interactive, educational platform where edited media modules created from the thousands of hours of footage from Have You Heardare curated, archived and searchable thematically. The short-form media will also connect to blogs, live mentorship, online videos, maps, news and digital photo feeds to create a dynamic, participatory activist toolkit, lesson planner and civic engagement tool.
