Big Cavern Club favourites...released 3 singles on Decca but failed to set the charts alight. On drums is the late Clive Hornby who played Jack Sugden in Emmerdale
@SirMikeyD Clive's great on the Live At The Cavern LP, but Bobby Graham is an absolute monster. Listen for his work on the first PJ Proby LP, very much like the B-side here. Completely over the top; look up Proby's "Together" for just one example. His extraordinarily powerful style propelled bands like the Kinks, Pretty Things and DC5 to greatness in the first place!
@mndandy excellent observation ... although live Dennisons cuts (readily available here on YT) show the "real" Clive Hornby to have been every bit as good. Whoever played the drums was awfully confident ... this was clearly no Grady Martin/Paul Burlison situation.
Definitely sounds like the work of session drummer extraordinaire Bobby Graham, you can spot his fills a mile away- especially on the B-side. Probably Jimmy Page doing that wacky solo too. An unbeatable team!
nice version! Aerosmith fans might also want to check out the version on the Rolling Stones' first LP, featuring a duet by Mick Jagger and Brian Jones.
The original version by Rufus Thomas was an American soul classic!

Wow! Clive Hornby. I like to watch Emmerdale. It's so sad he passed away.
