I imagine we marked the year by looking for patterns in the arrangement of stars in the night sky. We didn't always know latitude/longitude. We didn't always have precise timekeeping methods. How did we make sure we were facing the right way all the time? How far into the night did we decide to look? How did they even figure out how much time had elapsed since sundown?

On a side note, in the traditional calendar, the year begins March 1st. It's a calendar error to begin the year in January. First, the shortest month is last. That's common sense. Second, September, October, November, and December respectively translate to seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth months, making current society wrong in saying the year begins in January. Not that it matters.

I know, going through your videos, I've said once or twice I don't do holidays. The logic you present in this video is one of my arguments against Christmas, Mother's Day, birthdays, and whatever other holidays you're expected to celebrate. The idea of giving gifts, setting goals, cooking out, dressing up, etc. is fun. It's scheduling it at an arbitrary time of year out of blind tradition that I'm against. I don't need an excuse for these things. I do them on MY whim. Not the calendar's.

I'm going to make the same resolution I make every year: I resolve to not make the Earth crash into the sun.
So far so good. ;)

Once, my resolution was to become Time's person of the year. Imagine my surprise in 2006!
