Hi Trublu,
Salinas is a good market during mid December through April or May. After that the rentals drop in price and are slimmer picking as to renters. You might check out the Playas area also if you come to check things out. I have found an incredible opportunity there and better appreciation for the years ahead.

Alex- What does the rental market look like for Salinas and surrounding areas?
I was thinking of buying in Salinas because it would be the easiest to rent out with a better return in Salinas vs other places which are too rural.
I'm currently working in the US and will spend 8 months in the US working as a contractor. I need a place that can be rented out by a prop manager while I am away.

It's cheaper in the north...much cheaper. But, it is not developed in the north and is poor.
Someone with money and non-native will stick out in the North. The weather is cloudy most of the time and actually on the cool side which would surprise many.
Seafood is cheap, fresh, and pretty good.
The prices seem about right, I didn't make it further south than Manta.
I attended a real estate seminar in Quito and they were pitching 180K in salinas, the most expensive place on the cost.
