This is a scene from the worst disaster movie ever made, When Time Ran Out. This part shows the matte painting volcano erupting very cheaply and unconvincingly. Watch as a native falls sideways out of a helicopter into the volcano! Look for Paul Newman, Jaqueline Bisset, Veronica Hamel, James Franciscus, William Holden, Sheila Allen (Irwin Allen's wife), Edward Albert and Pat Morita(!).

I have yet to see a truly good volcano movie. Dante's Peak was about as close as they come, but even that was filled with moments beyond absurdity (e.g. rubber tires successfully navigating a field of lava without melting, water turning to acid, Pierce Brosnan being chased by cave-ins until the moment he activated the tracking device, etc.) Is it really that hard to make a volcano film that stays within the bounds of what really happens? They're pretty terrifying things.

Ironic, Irwin Allen expected this film to dethrone Raiders of the Lost Ark and Empire Strikes Back. With the Swarm and When Time Ran Out I have a feeling Irwin Allen spent his entire budget on ensuring that even bit parts were played by big stars and forgot about the special effects and most importantally hiring someone talented to WRITE THE SCRIPT
