It's my pleasure to share with you a video program from my childhood, entitled "Five Sesame Street Stories," courtesy of the fine folks at Children's Television Workshop and Golden Book Video. The entire program is shown as it is on the original VHS. I am uploading this due to people requesting this to be uploaded. I guess it's cause my YouTube Poop on this video turned out to be so popular!

Part 1 covers the story "The Origins of Super Grover," the first story in "The Exciting Adventures of Super Grover." We learn that Super Grover came to be when his mommy made a superhero Halloween costume for him, and we are then given a demonstration of Grover's super powers!

NOTE: The whole video has been re-uploaded in better quality, with a full stereo soundtrack, and I have actually re-captured the whole thing from my VHS tape using a better (FireWire-DV) video capture device! I think it's a great improvement.

I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

  • Upon watching this video as a kid, I learned the "eggplant and meatball" phrase first and wasn't aware of the traditional "it's a bird it's a plane" until much later in life.

  • @BKDBrian2 Yeah, I know the REAL Super Grover segments on Sesame Street used "It's a bird, it's a plane" phrase, but I assume Golden Book Video chose not to use it as Warner Bros. owns the rights to the phrase (SesameWorkshop/CTW is a non-profit organization so they were able to use it.) They did use the "Smarter than a speeding bullet" line though, like here

  • would the remastered the the little text box telling us what the production music is?

  • @TheFerbguy Working on that right now!

  • "Pocket Full of Peanuts" was heard on Zzzap! (British show) on the Daisy Dares You sketches.

  • I remember my mom buying this tape for me 20 years ago (in 1991), when I was getting ready to spend the week with my grandmother. I picked out this tape along with "The Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner Movie" in a video bargain bin at Metro North Mall. I was five years old at the time.

  • I used to love this tape when I was a little boy!

  • Are you stuck? Never fear. Super Grover is here!

  • I had this tape long ago. You'll also note Emily Perl Kingsley's been an integral part of Sesame Street ever since the show's second season.
