1934: Yesterday's Libertarian.
"American Liberty League" Libertarian coup.
Ron Paul, Bob Barr "Hitler" Youth. "The Corporation", attempted coup by wealthy Free Market Laissez-Faire industrialists' "American Liberty League", beginnings of what'd later be called "Libertarian Party" and Libertarianism, (i.e. Ron Paul, Bob Barr and Lyndon Larouche) promoting tiny government, de-regulation, "Social Darwinism" (Survival of the Financially and Physically Fittest) Adam Smith economics. (weed out the weak, sick, handicapped, unemployed "welfare parasites" and "useless eaters")
The League stated, it'd work to "defend and uphold the Constitution" and "foster the right to work, earn, save and acquire property."
early Libertarians were fierce backlash against "Keynesian Economics" or "Mixed Economy" and Roosevelt's "New Deal" relief to struggling workers in the "Great Depression". early Libertarians, allied and strongly sympathized with Free Market Laissez-Faire Fascists like Adolph Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Francisco Franco, whom they admired greatly, planned to use same tactics as these cruel extreme Capitalist Dictators against the FDR administration to keep the "New Deal" from happening.
Libertarians perpetrated a failed clandestine conspiracy to overthrow President Franklin Roosevelt and the U.S. Government, 1934, to usher in a Fascist regime, to protect their vast wealth assets from being shared with struggling citizens to free the flow of credit and alleviate the bleeding economic suffering.
General Smedley Butler, openly self declared Leftist Liberal, "Social Democrat" (anti-Libertarian) outspoken Anti-War General, since World War I, strong supporter of FDR, was approached by proto-Libertarian Fascists, to lead the coup. Smedley, pretended to play along but refused to cooperate, tired of being what he felt was a gangster for Laissez-Faire "Royalist" Capitalism, balked and reported his findings to Congress. The Conspirators mistakenly thought he'd assist them because of abundant affection he enjoyed among U.S. soldiers, who admired his work for veteran's affairs, government assistance and demand for compensation and benefits for soldiers, during and post-war. They didn't know he was a loyal, principled and determined Democrat for Social justice, organized labor and equality. They failed to recognize his heart and loyalty was to Working Americans, as he came from humble beginnings, was for worker's rights. (particularly veterans to get fair chance to employment and not discriminated against after serving our country)
NOTE: Smedley Butler is author of "War is a Racket".
Smedley Butler ratted on wealthy Libertarian "American Liberty League" Fascist wannabees.
When Roosevelt came to power in 1933 and it quickly became apparent he didn't plan to restrict his economic recovery measures to balancing the budget and optimism, a lot of the most wealthy Americans got very nervous about this "New Deal" business. August, 1934, some formed a lobby group called "The American Liberty League" to defend interests of the "economic royalists", as FDR came to call them.
The most dramatic event involving the Liberty League, was a charge by retired Gen. Smedley Butler, a popular figure at the "Bonus Army Protest", during Hoover Administration, put down under command of Eisenhower and MacArthur. He testified before a Congressional Committee about being approached by a representative of wealthy plotters wanting him to front a military coup against the federal government. He claimed it was some of the same people to form the Liberty League that were behind the plotting.
The Liberty League's main influence was its anti-New Deal propaganda and support for legal action against pro-labor legislation. Roosevelt's landslide victory took the wind out of the Liberty League's sails. Though the organization lingered until 1940, activity ended with 1936 election, in which they "unofficially" supported Landon against Roosevelt.
"American Liberty League, 1934-1940" by Frederick Rudolph "American Historical Review", Oct 1950. Rudolph tells of the League.
With the Cheney-Bush administration pushing Social Security phaseout using same arguments 1936 Republican Party used against then-new program, the Liberty League's ideas still have relevance.
It has direct descendants and resonance in its political children, "The Libertarian Party", congressman, Ron Paul, Bob Barr, Larouche and others. Despite that they were reactionary, even in 1934.
"The liberty of a Democracy is not safe if the people tolerate growth of Private Enterprise and privatization to the point where it becomes stronger than the Democratic State, itself. That, in its essence, is - Fascism -- ownership of government by a wealthy individual, by a group or by any controlling private power." - Franklin Roosevelt.

  • OK, first off I'm a huge Ron Paul fan, and I know all the libertarians disliked this video....however I find this potential coup very very interesting...I'd have to do some research but the guys that wanted the coup were a.) totally against FDR's radical socialist keynseian New deal and b.) at least claimed to be wanting to restore the constitution and gold standard... so were this rebels constitutional patriots trying to restore America? Or simply fascists who felt left out? Very interesting

  • @TheElasticJesusRez

    Laissez-faire ? you don't say (_!_)ol'e

  • @Thesilver11000

the questions were, yes or no, a list in a series of, yes or no, for each item on the list.

you need to answer specifically and tell why you believe a specific group is siphoning. if not, i'll delete all your comments so far.

  • @Thesilver11000

Let me remind you that at that point in history Britain was World Leader in just about everything and had the world's largest navy right up until the start of WW2.

Laissez-faire had enabled that to happen, not because it was a JUST way of doing business, but because it BEAT the HELL out of the British working class, who, because they had no rights, had to work for peanuts or STARVE to death.

Thank god laissez-unfair ended up in the dustbin of history.

  • @Thesilver11000

Let me explain the true definition of Middle-class:

Working-class: the majority who WORK for a living.

Middle class: landowners, doctors, lawyers, the intelligentia, economists and BUSINESSMEN who invented classic-liberalism and Laissez-unFAIR.

    Upper-class: Monarchy.

Now, since the British middle-class invented LF, used LF, birthed the industrial revolution, and then went on to conquer 1/4 of the planet how the hell do you conclude their status wasn't elevated?

  • @VampiressOnDaProwlq And every american paying taxes that are going to projects that the government have no authority to control, but that aren't being stopped b/c our schools (government run) don't even teach the children about the structure, role, and restrictions of government...

  • @VampiressOnDaProwlq Politicians (both sides) are responsible b/c of their power hungering and want of control. They want society to look and act and live like they want it to and since they have the power to change the rules unintended consequences (99% negative) are bound to happen. Business owners that are rich enough to get the attention of politicians also. And many corporate media outlets shepherd the people in circles to keep their lackeys in power who have power to keep syphoning...

  • @TheElasticJesusRez You goose! How can't you understand that during that period British Industrialist were also propped by their government with money taken from most of the middle class while the government made it extremely difficult from anyone in the middle class to elevate their own status by their own endeavor. There should've been NO ONE with the power to "DEEM" that some are more important than others. Governments should stay out of "steering" the economy in anyway or that's what happens

  • @VampiressOnDaProwlq that's an "OK" question-- not yes or no.

  • @VampiressOnDaProwlq

I've just spent the past 2 months talking to one such wall on one of the Margaret Thatcher threads (MT on Socialism) so I know exactly what you mean.

The user in question (fafura13) believes the best antidote to Soviet-styled oppression is Classic-liberalism.

In other words, it you don't like the acid on the left shelf, take the alkaline on the right. It will burn your stomach the same but who cares when your too anaesthetised to feel the pain.
