This video is intended to educate viewers the inspiration behind the soundtrack of Earthbound/Mother 2 for the SNES.

EarthBound, known in Japan as Mother 2: Gyiyg no Gyakushū (MOTHER2ギーグの逆襲 ,Mazā Tsū Gīgu no Gyakushū?, lit. "Mother 2: Gyiyg Strikes Back"), is a role-playing video game co-developed by Ape and HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Super NES video game console. It was designed by Shigesato Itoi, who also developed its Japan-only predecessor, Mother.

  • I have problem with the source for "The Cliff That Time Forgot" ... the beginning of the sample from "All You Need is Love" is actually part of the French national anthem "La Marseillaise".... so how couldn't that be used as a copyright dodge?

  • @MissRora The developers could always negotiate with the current copyright holders of the sampled music... but that would take forever.

  • @d3structi Inevitable. Though if it managed to get the series up and running again, I think they'd be able to live with it.

  • @MissRora Some people would be up in arms if EB got edited that much...

  • I realize it would just add to the headaches of remakes.... but couldn't they just scrap/modify the tracks with questionable legality? If they were to release it on a new system, they'd be updating the music anyway...

  • Megaman 1 never got sued because of Elec Man's stage.

  • Having heard all these I can kind of see why they're afraid of another American release. Tons of multi-million dollar lawsuits could come from it.

  • Most of these examples are tonedeaf. 2 are pretty accurate.

  • @ReaperOfPears Yes.

  • Am I the only one that broke out into air-guitar when Johnny B Goode started playing?
