  • whats th difference in these and the silver box of silver tips personal defense

  • @manostihl Nothing as far as I know just a package change. This is the older version of packaging.

  • This is a great round, but does Winchester still make it? I'm down to my last box and I've been looking for more for five years! It used to be easy to find.

  • @flashbulbnut It is still listed on Winchester's website. I am assuming it is still being loaded. Generally, manufacturers will make a run of ammo and then retool their machines to a new load. The changing takes down the line and stops production, so they will make ammo in large batches to reduce downtime. Perhaps they have not done a run of this ammo in a while and it is becoming scarce. I have not seen it for sale in a while either.

  • Can this ammo be a good self-defense round?

  • @Mr291229 Yes this round is quite effective and would do fine for self defense.

  • @andreleger2001 where can I find this ammo?

  • just bought a box here in Argentina

  • @shootcentermass

The bullet in the FBI shootout you mention was a 9 mm 115 grains Silvertip that went through the BG forearm and ribcage and it stopped 1 inch from his heart and it did expand, this one being heavier and in a more powerful caliber like the 357 magnum would have probablly penetrated more IMHO

  • I have to ask the obvious... Will this kill a werewolf?

  • I wonder what the attraction is of making the bullet silver?

  • for as much as these rounds cost i expected better. everywhere i look they the high end of all the hollow points in terms of cost and to just fragment. glad i didn't buy any.

  • Fragmented. Hmmm

  • Before I retired from law enforcement this was the load issued. I don't know the speed, but it was definitely a stout load. We had switched from Federal 125 grain in pursuit of greater penetration. Only shooting I witnessed was a close range head shot. Very nasty with brain matter sprayed throughout the suspect's vehicle.
