My Gramie used to watch this.

That show should never have left CBS.....

@stopthemachine Billie Lou Watt was in SFT for quite a while, from 1968 until 1981. This is also the era that had a lot of videos wiped so finding her may be a challenge! Good luck to you!

@softwater88 Well said. I'm so glad we have these videos to reminise to. Thank goodness for youtube.

@softwater88 I agree, this theme is so beautiful. And so is the one before it - same melody but with a piano. They should have left it alone, even if they were switching networks. I'm sure the TV execs could have came to some kind of agreement. And yes, the pseudo-Chuck Mangione theme was was totally lame. And the one in 1986 was even worse as it was total crap! This one and the one from 1974-80 are most beautiful.

@TimsDale4ever I totally agree with you 100%. And personally, I don't think you used any profanity - you bleeped it out. Your frustration and annoyance as to why someone would get rid of this beautiful theme in exchange for a crappy theme is totally understandable. Of course, I was only 8 years old when this took place and I remember being annoyed as I basically didn't adjust well to change.
-
@TimsDale4ever . . . I couldn't agree with you more. No need to apologize for the profanity. You hit the nail right on the head. If the truth be known the only reason that I'm on YouTube is for the soap themes. I'm serious. I totally miss this theme . . . I cried and was so upset when this theme was dropped in late 1981 for that pseudo-Chuck Mangione burgundy-backround colored theme/format.

That voiceover sounds familiar it sounds like Dan Rather.

Lovely, just lovely. When it moved to NBC someone f----d with the opening and closings and ruined it. I've always noticed for the most part that when someone changes a show's theme for the worst the show itself also goes to s--t.
Sorry for all the language -- daytime wouldnt' be in the mess it is today if some TV execs would just look at some recent history...

The font was similar in that kept the same swash flourish; however, the original has more of a gothic look to it and is more yellowish. The one that was used after 1981 is more gold.
Notice that the late Mary-Ellis Bunim was producer. She and Jonathan Murray formed Bunim-Murray Productions in 1991. Anyone familiar with The Real World?

No, they didn't. The announcer was CBS in-house. The only announcer-read copy on NBC promoted an NBC prime time programme.
