Dermot Ahern's Blasphemy Law

On Sunday 3rd May, Irish journalist Karen Coleman discussed proposals by the Irish Justice Minister Dermot Ahern to introduce a new crime of Blasphemous libel. Karen discussed the story on her show, The Wide Angle on Newstalk106-108. During the studio debate Karen referred to an article in the Sunday Times which quoted Green Party TD, Ciaran Cuffe saying many people would find the prospect of a law against blasphemy "old fashioned". We in Irish amongst our many obsessions (land, drink, politics etc.) religion is up there at the top of the list. We can't live with it/without it. I grew up the sun of an anglican preacher man in a narrow backwater in Ireland. Organised religion sucked the bloodlife out of this family. The arrogance of some of the prod community is to think that they are going to get converts from the dissillusioned, disgusted, disadvantaged from the R.C. community. Does no one realise they are sick of it all?
