James Griffin, Robb Royer and Fred Karlin accepting the Oscar for best song 1970: For All We Know.

Ironically, one of Jimmy's biggest recognitions came to him under the pen name "Arthur James", as did Robb's as "Rob Wilson." This song came from the movie: Lovers and Other Strangers.

** I WILL TRY TO CREATE A HIGHER-QUALITY VERSION OF THIS IN THE FUTURE. IT WAS A LOW-RES WMV FILE.

  • @flamingosrock15 But your dad thanked Fred. That was cool.

  • @cd72 I agree. Even Fred knew that. That's why he thanked them. I'm not guessing. I know. I was related to him.

  • Very strange to see a man I never met, but who impacted my life immeasurably. I am Fred Karlin's granddaughter...well, step. His daughter married my father in the 70's. I'm currently writing a book about what followed: drugs, a murder, and a cover up. No one ever wants to know that someone they look up to, someone who is so talented, could ever be a very bad person. I am NOT a fan of Fred's, but this piece of history should be preserved. Thank you.

  • Is it odd that the film has gone almost to oblivion while the version of the carpenters do still so alive ...?

  • @cd72 i am affraid you have missed the point! but i'm not here to argue!

  • Well it was classy of him to mention Karen and Richard. Yes they did NOT win it, but by that time, their version had sold over a million copies of the actual single FOR ALL WE KNOW. Which helped propel it to the win, in my honest opinion! It IS a beautiful song...make no mistake!!!

  • @bijez Well okay, it was only Fred who mentioned the carpenters. My dad and jimmy didn't mention the carpenters so I was confused at first.

  • @flamingosrock15 i don't disagree i am a song writer and member of A.S.C.A.P., however larry sang the song in the movie that won the award, not the carpenters! the carpenters had nothing to do with winning this award! trust me i am not trying to take anything away from talented writers, but to mention the carpenters and say nothing about larry meredith was unfortunate... no hard feelings!

  • @bijez its not like the singer wrote the song. Writing the song is harder than singing it. anyone could have done that. but you needed those three brilliant people to write the song.

  • hahaha my dad basically ran up there. <3 I LOVE THAT I GET TO SEE THIS
