http://www.techlicious.com/blog/samsung-galaxy-player-4-inch-5-inch-android-w... Want all the goodness of an Android phone without the phone? Samsung delivers with its 4- and 5-inch Galaxy Players, Wi-Fi-based Android devices. Think iPod touch versus iPhone.

Both Galaxy Players will run Android 2.2 (upgradeable to Gingerbread 2.3), have 1Ghz processors, 8GB of onboard memory (expandable through a microSD card slot to 32GB) and two cameras—3.2MP rear-facing and VGA front facing. The 5-inch model also has a flash.

Unfortunately, neither model uses Samsung's Super AMOLED display, instead relying on lower-resolution standard LCDs.

The 4-inch Galaxy Player will get 36 hours of audio and 5 hours of video playback from its removable battery, the 5-inch model will get 60 hours of audio and 8 hours of video playback.

Both the 4-inch and 5-inch Galaxy Players would make an excellent media device for people on the go who don't already have a smartphone with these features.

In a head-to-head with the iPod Touch, the Samsung Galaxy Players come out ahead on screen size (iPod Touch display is 3.5 inches) and have a much better camera (3.2MP vs an anemic .7MP on the iPod Touch). The iPod Touch wins out with its high-resolution Retina display and a slimmer, sleeker case design.

Pricing will be $229 for the 4-inch model and $269 for the 5-inch model.

  • The only different with the Galaxy Player 4 and 5 are the screens, battery life, and lighting/resolution. The 5 inch will have better battery life and bigger screen (duh), and look slightly more crisp. But all the options and everything else are the same. I would go with 4 because the 5 is fricken big, it would be better for videos IMO. Hope I helped. Thumbs up so people know.

  • If you want a smaller media player, I'd suggest the iPod Touch over the Galaxy Player 4. If you like watching movies and prefer a bigger screen, then I'd suggest the 5.

  • I have the 4 inch. 5-inch is just a little bit better because he has a bigger screen and better battery life, but otherwise he is the same only that is the difference . The iPod completely destroyed because the Galaxy Players are much better!
