Mozilla Fennec Alpha 1 Review

Attempting to use Mozilla Fennec (Mobile Firefox) Alpha 1 was painful. As you can see in the video, it took 1 minute and 35 seconds to install. No application should take that long on a Windows Mobile device. Then, when I attempted to start the app, I had no idea what was going on as there is no spinning cursor or anything to tell you it's starting. Near the end of the video, you can see the front page of Youtube just still on there, I was actually trying to scroll around the screen at that point without success.

Mozilla, you have a lot of work to do.

I just want to make sure that every reader and viewer here is aware of the fact, that this is ALPHA code, not even BETA (!!), its highly unoptimized, unlikely to work complaintless, that its just here to get an idea of where Fennec will go, once it gets more and more complete.

Thus video remarks like "it really took that long" and similar are not fair and reflect that the maker of the video doesnt fully understand what ALPHA BUILD means. Please take that into consideration at this point.

I do understand that this is an alpha release, I'm a software developer myself. I was commenting on the fact that this release is of really bad quality and Mozilla still has a lot of work to do in order to optimise it for a mobile platform.

I just thought holy crap, dont give people a bad impression of something which is might going to turn out to be the best browser for mobile devices... or not ;)

But thanks for the video none the less. Was looking into trying the ALPHA myself, but it does seem as if its really way too early to expect an even only halfway working build ;)

We'll see, we'll see where this goes to, hopefully from 24MB down to like 5 and from 1 minute down to like, maybe 10 seconds... :)
