taught to me by Christine Primrose. Performed at semester performance.

lyrics:

Bà i ù o hò
Bà i ù o hò
Bà i ù o hò
Bà i ò ho bà

Gheibh thu bainne bhuam (I'll give you milk)
Gheibh thu bainne bhuam
Gheibh thu bainne bhuam
Chan ann fuar ach blàth (Not cold but warm)

Cha bhi mise bhuat (I won't be away from you)
Cha bhi mise bhuat
Cha bhi mise bhuat
Mach air uair no dhà (apart from once or twice)

Caidil thusa luaidh (you sleep my love)
Caidil thusa luaidh
Caidil thusa luaidh
Is na gluais gu là (and don't stir until daybreak)

  • in scotland when its pronounced like gaylik it means irish gaelic (north-west highlands) while when its pronounced gahlic it means scots gaelic but anyway great singing

  • @HarvestMoonGod thanks, I learned that quickly enough while I was there!

  • Bà i ù o hò is the name of the song. And it isn't nonesense, it means i'll give you milk. =D

  • @Roquenntin01 the "title" of the song is nonsense. . .they are just vocables used between the verses . . .the first verse says "I will give you milk" .

  • math fhein !!!

Not all Americans are confused by the difference between Irish (Gaelic) and Scots Gaelic.

  • @GreenManelishi Thanks!

  • @Ccomaffayod Thanks very much! There is definitely something about Scots-gaelic and Irish that really moves you when you sing in it! Both are such ancient and gorgeous languages.

  • This made me cry. Scots Gaelic is one of the most beautiful languages I've ever heard, and it was sung beautifully here.

  • @UrFavWorstNightmare Love this song!!!!! Have you heard Julie Fowlis singing it....love it !!! soo much that is what first got me into singing scots gaelic when i would just sing the song in english first to get the feel of it( didint really work but at least i knew what it sounded like)

  • Sure thing PirateHat. . .just added them to the song info with the translation next to them. Hope that helps!
