"now is a ship /
which captain am /
sails out of sleep /
steering for dream" -- e.e. cummings.

A wink and a nod to Kirk & Spock's early days. The captain wants his fascinating first officer to understand him better, so he shares this poem, which he interprets as being about his love for his ship.
. . . But when Spock checks with the ship, the answer isn't quite what was expected. (Can she read her future? Or is a certain Vulcan putting words in her mouth?)

The music is Hungarian Dances No. 5 in G Minor, by Johannes Brahms.

The screencaps--mostly from the pilot episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before"--are from the big-hearted folks at TrekCore.com. The scenes of ship lighting appear in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" (as you probably know).

  • Mmmmm...honey bear

  • Couldn't you just eat him up?!

  • Oh your vids make me laugh so hard! Thanks!

  • You can imagine, I chortle to myself as I make them (in between pulling my hair out and gnashing my teeth at the technology involved).

But all that time with Kirk and Spock... My pleasure!

  • Please tell me the last line isn't foretelling you leaving youtube! Tickled, as always.

  • So you're saying you *want* more of Kirk's poetry mangling? : )

  • LOVE THIS!!!

  • Enterprise knows what's going on onboard her; I can only imagine the conversations she and V'Ger had during TMP. I'll bet you anything, though, that they had a running bet about Kirk and Spock, simply because EVERYBODY has a running bet about Kirk and Spock.

Yes, even the Klingons. The fella at the end of STV probably got a bit of dough for making Spock curse at him...

  • And I wouldn't even need a spoon ;)

  • Yes, please! ;)
