I avoided this series when I first got in to anime, because it seemed too strange for me, but, years later, now that I've fallen for Mawaru Penguindrum I'm gonna have to go back and watch this one and find out what all these Ikuhara rants are about XD

@suchiuomizu it just sounds like a lot of girls here are going 'I'M NOT A LESBIAN FOR LIKING THIS SHOW I SWEAR D:' rather then taking issue with whatever problems they feel exist in yuri centered media, such as whether or not something is a male fulfillment fantasy.
it's also kinda hilarious watching people be so hyperfocused on something as harmless as yuri but nobody brings up the incest/incestual rape, pedophilia from Akio etc etc.

@Shiruvi The same reason a lot of guys are uncomfortable with yaoi? Obviously there are exceptions, even among straight men and women, but the idea that a girl might not be comfortable with yuri doesn't seem that surprising.

to anyone who is hesitant about this anime, don't be. A lot of people are saying it is, but it isn't yuri. I haven't read the manga so the manga may very well be filled with yuri, but in this anime the closest you get to it is that they hold hands, but it seems to be in a friendly manner, and when they bring forth the sword anthy has to touch utena's chest, but that's later. It's really not that yuri filled. It's a great piece of artwork that you shouldn't be hesitant to watch :)

Yeah alright alright, ofcouse I'd known such thing.
But orginal title in Japan also doesn't make much sense literally, and yet I think that somewhat stupidly nonsensical title is just the point of this work, that it should not have such making-sense orthodox normal title as that "Revolutionary Girl Utena". It is as if change the title of "Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind" into "Warriors of the Wind", so I wrote, though absurd myself.

Utena has to be the most feminist show in existence, between its strong female lead and its themes of gender roles and how society pressures girls to dream of the perfect man to bring them happiness. It's also about love, good and bad relationships, and the transition from childhood into adulthood. I love this show. It's even more deep and complex than Evangelion.

@pratyeka Plus they kiss a bunch in the movie, and the dance set to Toki Ni Ai Wa is one of the most romantic things I've ever seen.

@Ldesu09 What does being a girl have to do with disliking yuri?
This comment has received too many negative votes show
The title is wrong.
It's not Revolutionary Girl Utena.
It's Girl Revolution Utena.

@jotanshi "Revolutionary Girl" is the official Title for the English version. "Girl Revolution" doesn't make much sense in English.

Does anyone know what this anime is about?
If so, please respond!!
The opening is really catchy, somewhat. :)

@TwinHeart2 It's about a girl who wants to be a prince (Utena) and the girl she meets at her new school who she decides to "save". It's a lot more complicated and thought provoking than it sounds. the TV tropes page for it describes it pretty well
