BROOKLYN CENTER
Thousands of area residents turned out to take a stand against crime last night as part of National Night Out festivities.
In Brooklyn Park, Riverview Apartments hosted a block party and cookout that featured a horseshoe tournament, face painting, a cake walk and a DJ.
Attendees also decorated cookies and made their own goodie bags.
Local law enforcement - including McGruff the Crime Dog ¬- also stopped by celebrations in Brooklyn Center.
BROOKLYN PARK
A Brooklyn Park teen may be the first to be charged under a new state law making it illegal to shine a laser light at planes.
It happened Monday night, when Minnesota State Patrol chopper pilots say they were temporarily blinded by a green laser shone from the ground.
Police arrested the 17-year-old for the incident. And the case is now going to juvenile court for possible charges.
The law making it illegal to shine a laser from the ground into the cockpits of aircraft went into effect Aug. 1.
