I'm inclined to believe that, because I don't personally find us 'anglos' very germanic, despite our language...

VOTE BRITISH NATIONAL PARTY!

Incorrect. Advanced genetic studies have proven that as a whole, right across the country, the prehistoric stock of these isles remain largely the same. R1b, the prehistoric gene, is as much as 90% in Wales and 75% in England. Germanic culture for a while supplanted earlier cultures, but that itself was supplanted later on.
-
And that's exactly why it seems weird to me. Using "immigrant" to describe the Germanic population of England seems beyond the pale of the proper understanding of "immigrant" because it blurs the distinction between the modern native Englishman and someone who for example immigrated from Palestine 5 years ago.
-
Historically this is the case- immigration by various German tribes supplanted the Celtic ones living here during the migration period. But that was over 1000 years ago...

Thing is, agricultural labour in Peterborough can pay quite well, well over minimum wage. It's just a work ethic thing.

Well said!

Thats a social problem - people have no work ethic anymore. Whereas in the past there was a sense of working for the good of the community, family, country, now thats gone - such 'old fashioned' ideas are scoffed at & rampant individualism has become the norm.. Many people can't be bothered as you say but there is much potential, if only people had a little more faith in themselves. Also the wages ARE an issue; people don't want to pay an honest wage, they would rather have cheap foreign labour.

Do ppl in the Britain regularly refer to themselves as an "immigrant country"? Because Britain is not an immigrant country by the standard definition . . . i.e. a country where the native population has been supplanted by immigration.

Dude makes a good point. I live in Peterborough and the job centre is full of white British. Not through lack of jobs- there are plenty of jobs in the food industry (which hasn't been too badly affected by recession), but because they can't be bothered and would rather earn less on benefits. The jobs go to those willing to work- if said workers are immigrants then so be it. Better they do it than the firms go bust.
just got back from Portugal, been there 3 months no muslims no mosques what the fuck is this country doing? has it pressed the self destruct button? islam is evil.

40 years later, they're still discussing what Enoch Powell already knew. Idiots.
