I love these wings! So beautiful and magical looking! (and sturdy). The part that confused me the most was the sewing of the excess. How is that done?
I pull the nylon as tight as I can, one stocking at a time and wrap it around the middle connection wire as tight as I can. When I get to the end of material I hold it down and sew it down with a few stitches. I do this with each stocking until there is a thick padding of fabric covering the connecting wires and no "tails" of nylon hanging loose. Does that clarify anything for you?
Great Tut!!! I want to make my own wings for the Elf Fantasy Fair (Dutch Fair), I've got a picture on my mind, but I want it to be in different colours, glitters etc. Do you got som tips and tricks for me? TY!
hmm good question, every set of wings I make tends to be an experiment in just this. I think unless you are looking for blending of colours, painting each colour one at a time, letting it fully dry before adding a new colour. With the glitter I guess it depends on the method of applying it. I have been adding glitter at the last step using glue or glitter glue, letting it just enhance the painting already done. Hope that makes some sense!
were using these wings for our presentation of " a midsummer nights dreams"
