Hearns may have been robbed of the victory, but to say that Leonard was a fraud and coward is(in the words of Mike Tyson) ludicrous. Leonard fought the best of his era and never dodged or ducked anybody. He moved up and down in weight class and fought the biggest punchers and brawlers of his era. His style made some critical of his prowess as a boxer, but he stood toe to toe with everyone. He is the greatest welterweight of his time and maybe the greatest ever.
Oh, come on !! Leonard never stopped dancing even after the 1 pushdown and 1 knockdown he took. And he himself scored 2 near knock-outs that gave Hearns wobly legs here: These were in Round 5 and Round 12. However one sees this, when these two fought in their prime with Leonard not pushing 40, Leonard proved best and had to be stopped by the referee from ending Hearns boxing career.
When Leonard had Hearns in trouble, he didn't let up. He kept pouring on the punches, which helped him a lot. Hearns must not have had the endurance that Leonard had to keep punching.
Hearns seemed to have Leonard in trouble, but was unable to pour it on and finish him off. He allowed Leonard to recuperate numerous times and get back into the fight.
Another bag job decision for Leonard. Hearns clearly beat his ass in this rematch and yet Leonard gets the draw. What a joke. Hearns and Hagler were true warriors with lots of heart, Sugar was a fraud.
yes, i remember that era, the four horsemen they were called, leonard, hearns, duran and hagler. they carried boxing back then. but these days we have unbeaten champions because they handpick their opponents. unbeaten because they wait for opponents to slow down and then take the fight. how sad.

This is one I won't bash Leonard over. He's admitted several times that Hearns really won this fight.

Give Ray Leonard credit. On page 48 of the January 14, 1991 issue of Jet Magazine, he admitted that Thomas won this rematch....
