In the summer of 1956 Eddie opened his first show under his own management company. The show was called In the Groove and was staged at the Windmill Theatre, Great Yarmouth. Along side him were Gerry Brereton, Don Lang.
Sylvia Drew, Margo Harris, The Londonairs and the Graham Brothers. These pictures are from that show.

  • I love the track too and also enjoyed looking at Gt Yarmouth, then and now. I recognise many of the places shown, especially the Windmill Theatre. As for the track, it's as good as Nini Rosso's original and very much like it too. It's very haunting and I now have it among my favourites here and in another folder on my pc. Eddie Calvert was known as "The Man With The Golden Trumpet", I reckon Nini could've held that title too. May they both rest in peace.

  • @Bonapart1808 Hi! I have already explained: this piece is really 'The Funeral' COMPOSED BY ENNIO MORRICONE (and in 1965), who's own instrument was Trumpet and who has written many fine pieces for that instrument, INCLUDING THIS ONE.

The player Nini Rosso could hardly have entered the pop charts with a piece called "The Funeral", hence the change to "The Silence". But changing the name does not change THE TRUE AUTHOR. The royalties on those 10 million copies RIGHTLY belong to Morricone

  • Brings back so many memories of me and my lovely wife Sue,we used to play this in my mams back room when we were all of fifteen, many years ago,it still pulls the old heart strings.

  • Waken my young friends, its II Silenzio the angel has lifted you from the battle field and now you are with the golden trumpet that called you home.As an ex.Service Personal thanks for being on my side,as you gave your all.

  • Brings back so many memories. Excellent

  • @HughHue Il Silenzio (Silence in English) is an Italian pop music instrumental piece, with a small part of spoken Italian lyrics, notable for its trumpet theme. It was written in 1965 by trumpet player Nini Rosso and Guglielmo Brezza, its thematic melody being an extension of the bugle military call for taps. It has become a worldwide instrumental standard, which has sold around 10 million copies.

  • This beautiful composition has seemingly been mis-attributed to Nini Rosso, but anyone who has the soundtrack to Ennio Morricone's 'Il Ritorno di Ringo' (1965) will know that is NOT true

  • This piece was COMPOSED by the Great Master ENNIO MORRICONE... actually for a funeral scene in an obscure low-budget Spaghetti Western called 'The Return of Ringo'

It's original title is "The Funeral". But... "Il Silenzio" ~ yeah, that works too.

(Tried to find a YouTube of the original, but nuthin doin)

  • OUTSTANDING

Hi, Gerry used to be my father inlaw and sometimes I drove him and Tim (his pianist) to their gigs in the '60s..He had a super voice and I think he did two Royal Variety shows as well. He sang along with Eddie to 'Oh Mein Papa' it was great. I have been looking for any clips of Gerry at shows if you know where I may find any. Cheers and all the best.
